Schnapps is a term that refers to any kind of strong alcoholic beverage. The English word Schnapps is derived from the German Schnaps (meaning to swallow). The spirit is essentially the same as French Eaux-de-Vie or Italy's Grappa - a clear, dry, colourless fruit brandy produced by fermentation and double distillation.
